Wall cabinets

The wall cabinet is a unit that can be installed on the wall, suspended from the floor, and that allows you to furnish the living area with models that range from classic solutions to modern proposals. This feature makes the wall units very useful when you have little space available on the floor or when you need to optimize the space inside the rooms. Wall units are complements that not only help to organize the space effectively but are also able to furnish with a mix of colors and combinations of materials: wall units with shelves, for example, allow you to decorate the walls with games of shapes and shades. If you want to show the photo of the last trip, rather than resting a room perfumer or a decorative plant, the open wall cabinets are the best choice, precisely because they are open and less suitable to contain personal effects.

Wall cabinets for the living area: versatile furnishing accessories

The design of modern wall units allows these furnishing accessories to be inserted in any type of living area.
Wall cabinets with doors, for example, contribute to the final result of a furnishing project for the living area. These complements, initially designed and built to recover space, are the subject of stylistic experimentation and are revisited in a modern key to meet every need in terms of furniture. Among the most popular proposals are the modular design wall units, which allow you to change the shape of the cabinet by adding or subtracting modules. In this way, you can customize the wall unit in many ways.

Materials, styles and shapes of the wall cabinets

Often the wall unit is a piece of furniture that is chosen later than the purchase of the entire furniture. Choosing it separately implies particular attention to the choice of material that, at best, will coincide with that of the furnishings in the room in which it will be placed, in other cases it will be necessary to strive to find the right match without impacting the aesthetic effect. If you have a wooden wall system rather than a cupboard or a table in the same material, you can choose either a wooden wall cabinet consistent with the environment or made with a different color, or a metal wall unit that acts as a contrast to everything else and that perhaps recalls other design elements in the room. If in doubt, the glass wall unit is certainly the visually least impactful choice of all.
The space available instead acts as a watershed in the choice of a horizontal wall cabinet rather than a vertical wall unit. The latter is an intelligent way of exploiting spaces that are otherwise unusable, such as the space between two doors, rather than the back of a plasterboard wall or the side of an internal staircase that connects the living and sleeping areas.

Bathroom column or kitchen wall unit, each room with its own best suspended container

Whether you're in the kitchen or in the bathroom, the problem of how and where to store what you need to keep handy is not a problem if you have wall cabinets available. In the world of kitchens, the wall unit has a very specific function: it contains in most cases and is functional in many others, since the kitchen is an environment destined to be lived in 365 days a year by the whole family. The traditional kitchen wall unit is the one with the first level for storing freshly washed glasses and cups, while the second level is used as a dish drainer. Usually it is 120/90/60 cm, depending on the size of the washbasin immediately below. Others, if any, wall units in the kitchen must serve the sole function of containing or optimizing space, do not have precise functions, preferably at full height to recover as much as possible space to store dishes and accessories.
It is different to imagine a bathroom wall unit: in this case it is much more common to find bathroom columns rather than other floor-standing storage units, given the generally small size of these rooms. Having a bathroom wall unit with mirror door solves two problems in one, both certainly useful and functional in an environment like that of the toilet.

Under-wall lighting for equipped worktops

Equipping a wall unit with furniture lighting makes it an interesting and useful light source. The discussion is amplified if we talk about the kitchen environment: it is necessary to have the worktop always well lit to stay at the stove and if the hood in this helps on the area fires, the rest of the space must be managed in some way by the light. There are two different approaches when it comes to under-wall lighting: in one case it is prepared in the design of the kitchen, holes are made to accommodate spotlights and light spots and enough space is left for there to be a convenient passage of electrical cables. If, on the other hand, the light is studied after the cabinet has been assembled, LED strips can always be used to be anchored under the wall unit. This is a practical, safe and easily replicable solution: just cut the strip according to the size of the wall unit and paste it under the cabinet, as well as clearly providing space for a small transformer, easily masked. Lighting can also be provided above the wall unit, but this is not a functional choice but a purely aesthetic stylistic note that, however, restores brightness to the room thanks to the indirect light reflected from the ceiling.

How high can you place the wall units on the wall?

Organizing wall units is generally an action free from rules and for this reason it is difficult for many non-experts, especially when dealing with individual modules and modular wall units. There are many ways to hang the wall units, many choices to proceed, with obviously different outputs. Some people prefer to arrange them in a geometric and linear way, which is quite natural when dealing with cubes or design elements with simple and squared shapes. In this case, it is always better to ski enough space between the base of a wall unit and the upper end of the one immediately below, so as to make the void created itself an exhibition space for books, plants or frames.
Other people decide to mount them at a comfortable height (with the upper part within reach) and near the entrance door, so as to make them excellent surfaces for coin trays. This is certainly the case for wall cabinets with drawers: this choice is functional in small rooms and for entrance areas that are not really large, where even a wall unit can make a difference. The same applies to very high mounted wall units, on the lower base of which key-holder hooks or hanger knobs are fitted. They are all choices that vary depending on the environment and the style of your own home... the real rule is just not to have rules!
