Calligaris is an Italian company specializing in the production of designer furniture. The company was founded in 1923 in Manzano, Friuli, as a small workshop in which Antonio Calligaris began production of the traditional wooden chair with a straw seat. In the 1950s it was up to his son Romeo to take the reins of what was by then a thriving business, while in the 1970s, under the leadership of the third generation, Calligaris entered the industrial and international dimension, establishing itself as a leader in Friuli's so-called “chair district.” In the 1980s, production expanded to other categories of interior furniture and integrated other materials besides wood, such as plastic, metals, fabrics, methacrylates, glass, and ceramics. Through collaboration with various designers, both established and emerging, Calligaris began to collect numerous awards and recognitions, including the 2021 “fsc® furniture awards” and the “best managed companies award” for three years in a row starting in 2019. Today the company boasts a worldwide presence, through subsidiaries that distribute the products made in its 5 factories, and is recognized as one of the excellences of Made in Italy. A synthesis of traditional craftsmanship and state-of-the-art technology, Calligaris signature furniture offers elegant and impactful solutions for any type of environment. Planners, designers, architects and craftsmen work together to create exclusive products that combine aesthetics and functionality, capable of evolving and adapting to the needs of customers.

Calligaris chairs, aesthetics and functionality for unique environments

In the Calligaris catalog, chairs are undoubtedly the protagonists. Elegant and functional, they contribute to furnishing unique environments with a classic contemporary style. The Liberty chair, designed by Studio Archirivolto-Pocci & Dondoli, is inspired by the unmistakable line of Thonet chairs, reinterpreted in a stackable model in polypropylene with padding in Flame Retardant technical fabric and declined in 8 trendy colors. Studio Archivolto also signs the brand new upholstered Anime chair, featuring slender conical and oblique metal legs and a wraparound back that integrates armrests. The Fifties chair, by designers Busetti Garuti Redaelli, is a tribute to the design of the 1950s, with its elegant slender and light line. The refined combination of materials compensates for the simplicity, with legs and frame in brass-plated or black metal and upholstered seat and back, covered in leather or velvet. The designer trio also signs the upholstered Ines chair, again inspired by the 1950s. Soft and colorful, it has a rounded shape and features a solid wood frame. MrSmith® Studio signs the Basil collection, which includes several models, starting with the upholstered and leather-covered chair. The common denominator is the one-piece seat, characterized by a central groove at the upholstery seam, a distinctive feature of the collection, also reported in the polypropylene models, such as the Basil stool or the Basil 5-spoke office chair on wheels. The Calligaris catalog also includes chairs for the home office, such as the Saint Tropez chair with wheels, by Studio Archirivolto-Pocci & Dondoli, with a polycarbonate shell declined in 8 color versions, 4 of which are transparent, while the 5-spoke aluminum base can be chosen in matte black or matte optical white.

Calligaris furniture solutions: tables, sofas, storage furniture

Calligaris in its catalog also offers all-around furniture solutions, from tables to storage furniture. Not surprisingly, among the 2024 novelties are the Twins table, by Studio Archivolto, with a metal base and top declined in ceramic, Nilo bronze glass or wood veneers, the scenic Yoroi round and oval table and the Cyclone extending table, both by Busetti Garuti Redaelli. Stefano Spessotto's Favola sofa is a modular and flexible system with a contemporary design that updates the Landa sofa with chaise longue, designed by Spessotto in 2021. Gabriele & Oscar Buratti try their hand at designing storage furniture, as in the integrated modular system of Universal sideboards and cupboards. Responding to today's needs for customization of spaces, Universal offers maximum versatility, thanks to the possibility of combining different options between base, doors and frame sizes. Busetti Garuti Redaelli signs the Lake collection, which includes the nightstand and sideboard. Slender legs support the oval structure in curved wood, in which the drawer and doors are integrated until they are invisible. The Madame collection offers a range of streamlined furniture, thanks to its open metal frame and lightweight oval wood veneer tops. Designed by Bernhardt & Vella, the family includes the bedside table in two versions, with or without integrated lighting, the writing desk and the dressing table cabinet.
