Bedroom sets

The bedroom is certainly the most intimate room in a house, a space all for ourselves, out of our guests’ sight, where we rest and recharge. The furnishing and complements, as well as the colors chosen for the walls and the textiles all provide a relaxing and cozy ambiance. Many people love furnishing the bedroom with diverse pieces of furniture not necessarily combined with one another. However, most companies offer a wide selection of furniture sets already complete for the bedroom, letting free choice for what concerns finishes and materials.

Bedroom sets: styles and trends

Bedrooms, that were back in time heavily garnished and chunky, at time slightly severe and gloomy, have been greatly lightened with contemporary furnishing putting minimalist lines and a clean design to the forefront. The most common material among the ones used in modern style bedrooms is wood in all its forms and derivatives. Finishes and colors, on their side, are also softer and warmer in a way to shape a more comfortable and soothing atmosphere. The latest trends in design put a strong accent on textiles to bring extra style and texture to the bedroom. Starting from a linear and neutral furniture base one could dare with colors and patterns, with floral or geometric themes, for bedding as well as for curtains, cushions and poufs that can be easily changed to give the impression that the furniture has been restyled according to the season or personal tastes. For fans of contemporary minimalist style the market offers plenty of classic-style bedrooms options, ranging from shabby chic style, ideal to set a romantic tone, to the grimmer and more rigid nautical style, till French neoclassic style, abounding with decorations and ornaments.

The key elements of a bedroom

The crucial part when choosing a bedroom furniture is the bed; once we have chosen the model that best fits our needs, whether in wood or upholstered, minimalist-styled or with a majestic headboard, we can move on to the remaining pieces. Not all spaces allow to create a walk-in closet where to put clothes and linens. Thus the next step is choosing a wardrobe, obviously of a size that is adequate to the space available, to which we can possibly combine one or more chests of drawers. Bedside tables are also not to be forgotten, as they are very useful components, often replaced by a shelf or a shelves unit integrated to the headboard, or by light, easily removable small-sized tables. A bedroom featuring all these components -a bed, a wardrobe, a chests of drawers and bedside tables- can be considered complete, but nothing hampers to add more elements and accessories.

Complements and accessories for the night area

Once all the indispensable furniture pieces are bought, it’s time to customize and enrich the bedroom with accessories and complements. Let the imagination run free with curtains, cushions, rugs, poufs, if needed, comfortable, unobtrusive extra chairs and plenty of photographs on the walls, prints or paintings. Available in various shapes and dimensions, mirrors are super handy in a bedroom; hanged on a wall or even only leaned against it, they are both functional and decorative elements. Great to put on our clothes once back at home, the valet stand is barely seen in bedrooms. It used to be very popular in our grandparents’ houses, mainly for male use, and has made a comeback of sorts as a classic revived with a contemporary flair.

Not only for the night sleep. How the bedroom can serve different scopes

It is ever increasing the tendency to bring to the bedroom also other furnishing complements which do not belong to the bedroom by tradition, because the house lacks a dedicated space. A bit like it happens for the kids’ room, the adults’ bedroom can become a room where more things are done; for instance studying or working can be done by equipping a corner as a home office with a desk and a chair and, if possible, a small bookshelf; or reading, not only in bed, but also by obtaining a dedicated spot furished with an armchair, a lamp and a table or a bookshelf for your favorite books; or even for training, by allocating an area to sports, equipping it more or less depending on the available space; or eventually taking time for personal care with a make-up area to set up with a dressing table and a stool. A vintage element which is coming back to fashion and that is useful when it is needed to split the room according to its functions is the screen. It used to be always there in bedrooms to obtain some privacy when undressing, guarding against indiscreet eyes. Today it is used as a movable wall to place when and where needed and a fine decorative element.
